Sibyl Buck Backbend Workshop March 25th – 27th 2011

Dear community, I am pleased to announce that a very dear friend will be coming to SLC to share her infinite knowledge and super powered yoga skills. I have had the pleasure of knowing Sibyl Buck for quite a few years and I can say that she has had a profound impact on my life. I am excited to share this news with you and hope to see you in studio, you will not regret stepping into her workshops! A BIG THANKS to Dana for bringing her out!

Brought to you by Dana Baptiste of Centered City Yoga

Sibyl’s Bio

I was lucky to find Jivamukti Yoga in NYC back in 1997, and have the honor of studying intimately with David Life and Sharon Gannon in their cozy east village studio. I knew from the start that yoga was for me. I took my practice with me during intense schedules as a fashion model and then as a touring musician, both of which careers allowed me to travel the world, and to gain perspective on my purpose here. In 2008, I moved from Brooklyn to Topanga Canyon with my partner and our daughter. Since then, I feel so honored to have been able to learn from incredible Los Angeles teachers; Annie Carpenter, Jasmine Lieb, Vinnie Marino, Lisa Walford, and so many others who rekindled my love for the daily practice. Inspired by the way my life transformed as I dove back into yoga, I completed the Yoga Works 200 hour teacher training and began teaching full-time. I’ve been humbled by how, when I turn to it, yoga works from the inside out to guide me on my path.

Friday March 25: 730-930 pm
Restorative practice, slow, stable, long holds of poses with props to support the body. We’ll focus on twisting, coming face to face with our inner selves, and practicing acceptance, and surrender. The energy of letting go is necessary to make space for what we wish to manifest. we’ll release negative thought patterns, as well as energy blockages to cleanse and detoxify layers of ourselves. Restorative practice is like yoga dessert!

Saturday March 26: 1230-230
ocused asana practice, beginning with detailed alignment principles, culminating in energetic, vinyasa flow. Get moving, build heat in the body, and burn away impurities, getting your energy moving within your physical form. We’ll focus on strengthening and opening the shoulder girdle, one of the three gateways to backbending. We’ll practice the vibrancy and effort needed to create the possibility of expansion.

Saturday March 26: 330-530
We’ll begin with a led meditation, ultivating luminosity and serenity. We’ll study some texts which support the concepts presented, and sicuss the relevance of Patanjali’s sutra 11:46, Sukha Sthira Asanam to the concept of the three Gunas. We’ll work with each other to discover your intetntion and create ritual to support the realization of your highest path. Come prepared to move, we will work with some deep yoga asana, focusing on opening the hips, the second gateway to backbending.

Sunday March 27: 1230-230
The culmination of the workshop, bringing together all three qualities in asana practice. We’ll move deeply into back bending, learning to open the third gateway, the heart and thoracic spine, in order to move forward and manifest.

Price $165 for all four workshops

The Triangle Fires Show SLC, UT. 3.18.11 6pm-10pm

Step back in time on the 18th @Fice during the Triangle Art Show. Part of SLC Gallery Stroll.
Lunar Collective takes a daring plunge into the flames of the historical fire of 1911. 100 years later we remember the unforgettable Gibson Girls that burned alive, or jumped to their death. Please read on for further details. Lunar Collective will be performing their commemorative piece, twice that night. The first performance will take place @7:30pm, then again @9:30pm.

100 years after the Triangle Shirt Waist Company fire claims the lives of 146 women and men, a group of Salt Lake Artists will come together to commemorate the tragedy that shaped the industrial revolution as we know it. Thirteen artists lend a voice that will echo the importance of lives lost and American history that will not be forgotten.
